Success?

Dare I even utter the word? Things have been going better at the dinner table this week. And I feel the need to balance out the negativity exuding from my previous few (okay okay, basically all) of my posts before people start calling the suicide hotline. Or a debt collector. (Have you heard this?)

Monday: whole wheat pasta with meat sauce (including loads of hidden, hated veggies like eggplant and green peppers)- devoured. Except HRH but he can stuff it. Tuesday: hamburgers, brocolli, carrots, tomatoes, salad, rice- devoured by all. Wednesday: hijiki seaweed takikomi rice (Black seaweed, veggies, cooked chicken mixed with broth and cooked in the rice cooker,) lightly fried white fish, sautéed spinach: spinach wasn’t a hit but both kids had seconds of rice and ate all their fish.

Tonight I’m gonna make chili. It might be too spicy for the kids, though, so I’ll separate some before I put the spices in and maybe just flavor it with ketchup so it looks the same as the grown up food.

Me Too has even eaten breakfast two days in a row. Usually, she refuses to have whatever I put out in the morning. On Wednesday, I let her choose the menu. We ended up having left over hamburgers and salad for breaky, which is a little weird for the American palate but maru okkei (A-okay) in Japan. Today she ate half a piece of bread, in spite of it being whole wheat which she usually hates, and some scrambled eggs.

Brother always does a great job with breakfast (he had two pieces of bread, eggs, and spinach today). That makes Sister’s morning pickiness seem more troublesome.

Tomorrow, HRH is eating out, so we’ll be free to have peanut butter sandwiches or grilled cheese or something easy and kid friendly. And cake! I bought a giant Swiss cake roll from Costco that we will have to work through.

Forklifts-everyone’s favorite exercise.

Yay bloody yay. Less stress at dinner times is a great thing. My three are watching tv and eating their dinner very slowly – but at least its going in the mouth and not around the room now. Actually I take that back. Ryu isn’t moving at all. hmmm, perhaps I should get off the computer and do something mummy-ish like help him :)
enjoy the peanut butter sammies and cake. Sounds like a great dinner to me.

Today didn’t go as well. Chili turned out way too spicy, even the mild version. Kids ended up with rice (which they covered in parmesan cheese) and fruit for dinner, so they were happy.
